State Name: Sarah Yvette Bonne
Sarah is an artivist and socially conscious artist that stands up for children. She volunteers at a children’s trust called Tariro-Ithemba For The African Child (TIFTAC) which starts projects that take rural children to school. She is also a photographer and the first ever winner for Voice2Rep Zimbabwe.
She describes her song “Hear me now” as a cry and yearning to be heard. “There is nothing as amazing as someone listening to you and acting to help you out of the pain you will be going through,” Sarah says. “Of course people will only think it is about a woman who has been abused by the husband and the relatives kept quiet and said you need to endure until the end yet it results in death. But it’s also for the child who was raped yet she had no voice to speak out and express herself so she quietly cried. My song is also about about leaders seeing injustice but not acting. We kill each other in riots and marches because we are desperate to be heard.”
